Why Reach Campus?
Is there a need to reach the campus? The following are some of the Biblical and Practical reasons why a church should take the Gospel to the campus. May the truth challenge us all to take part in building God's kingdom through the church in the campus.

I. PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL GLORIFIES GOD (Col. 3:23-24; Matt. 5:16; I Pet. 4:11)

God's glory is the ultimate reason for doing all that we do (Col. 3:23-24). Thus, reaching the campus is a matter of glorifying God by joyfully obeying His Great Commission, which is to go and make disciples in all nations (Matt. 28:19-20).
"The ultimate goal of God in all of history is to uphold and display His glory for the enjoyment of the redeemed from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. His goal is the gladness of His people because God is most glorified when we are more satisfied in Him (John Piper)."

II. A CAMPUS IS A STRATEGIC PLACE FOR MISSIONS (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Acts 19:9b-10)

A. One of the most fruitful ministries of the Apostle Paul was at the School of Tyrannus. "...he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks" (Acts 19:9b-10). It is noteworthy that the Apostle Paul was a campus minister. The verse tells us that he goes to the campus daily which, according to historians the time, is from 10 AM to 3 PM. Phenomenal results are simply summarized at verse 10 "...so that all who dwelt in Asia (Asia-minor) heard the word of Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks." Many Bible scholars believe that Paul's three-year ministry in Ephesus, two years of which he spent on campus, was the most productive work he had done because it resulted to the establishment of hundreds of churches.

B. One of the richest mission fields is the campus. There are great resources for the proclamation of the Lord's glory available in campuses. Students come from all walks of life to study for several years. They are reachable. We know that the future leaders in our country are the youth of today and the laws of the land will rest in their hands. The technology that brings comfort or discomfort is the result of research done by students who graduate from colleges and universities. What resources, then, are at the very doorstep of our churches?

C. One of the best times for serving God is during student life (Ecc. 12:1; I Tim. 4:12). Students are gaining knowledge, shaping values and making decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. They have more time now than they ever will again to be involved in Bible study and discipleship.

III. GUIDING THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS IS INSTRUCTED AND MODELED (Deut. 6:4-9; Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:4; 2 Tim. 1:5)

A. Statistics tells us that 80% of Christian today in our churches accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 18 years or below. This shows that the younger ones are the most receptive to the Gospel. Students are the most reachable and trainable group of masses because they can easily be influenced. We need to reach the campus then because most of the youth are there.

B. Satan knows the potential of the youth; he gives his best effort and time with them. Sad but true! Countless of young people are aggressively involved in the activities of the devil. It is reported that there are approximately 200,000 abortions in the Philippines every year and we have almost 2 million drug addicts. Without a doubt, most of them are young people, and maybe some of them are from our churches.

C. Securing the maturity and commitment of the next generation, a focus on potential youth is essential. Traditionally, the church loses its direction, vitality and effectiveness in the 2nd and 3rd generations. May we follow the instructions of God given through Moses to the people who would cross the Jordan River. "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates" (Deut. 6:4-9).

This the passion of the Campus Bible Fellowship, REACHING SOULS, CHANGING LIVES; BY HIS GRACE; FOR HIS GLORY. We would like to invite you then to pray for CBF, the campus ministry of Western Visayas Fellowship of Fundamental Baptist Churches. This school year CBF continues to grow with five fulltime workers. We wish to spread the same passion all over the Philippines.

We also would like to invite you to consider assisting in the finances of CBF. You may contact our treasurer, Mr. Waymond Yap at telephone no. 63-34-4610919 / 63-919-4521044 or Philip N. Fernandez at Mobile Phone No. 63-916-4307620.
